Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Your journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel by our guide in a comfortable land cruiser. You’ll then embark on a scenic drive to Akagera National Park, known for its beautiful wildlife and bird species. Enjoy the lush greenery of the countryside as you approach the park. Upon arrival, have lunch and embark on an evening game drive to spot wildlife such as impalas, zebras, buffalos, lions, leopards, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, and waterbucks. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 2: Game Viewing and Lake Ihema
After breakfast, head out for an exciting morning game viewing experience to observe wildlife such as hunting cats, lions, leopards, Masai giraffes, zebras, hyenas, wild dogs, warthogs, and various antelope species. Return to the lodge for lunch and then enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Look out for hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of water birds. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Nyungwe Forest NP and Canopy Walk
After breakfast, depart Akagera National Park and head to Nyungwe Forest National Park, home to Rwanda’s closest relatives of humans in the wild. Arrive in the afternoon, have lunch, and experience the thrilling Canopy Walk, suspended 50 meters above the forest floor. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee tracking guidelines. Trek into the forest to track these fascinating creatures and spend an hour observing and photographing them. After tracking, have lunch and drive to Ruhengeri for gorilla tracking the following day. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Gorilla Tracking
After breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing before trekking into the mountains to track the habituated mountain gorillas. Spend a full hour with them, observing their behavior and taking photos. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Return to Kigali
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali, passing through small towns and villages. Upon arrival, have lunch and transfer to the airport for your departure.
